Band on the Rise…..

You’ve probably never heard of  Barricades Rise have you? No….I thought not!

To be honest had it not been for the fact that Band Member Jonathan Coates is an old friend of Shure Distribution then I probably wouldn’t have either, but when he mentioned that he was in the market for a new studio microphone I naturally began to take an interest. We chatted over the options for a while and spurred on by Jonathan’s enthusiasm for the project I agreed to ’pick out something suitable’ and send it over for the band to record a test track.

The simple fact with recording is that the better the sound you capture initially, the better the final mix will sound, and knowing that Barricades Rise had a natural acoustic feel to their music helped decide that a KSM44A would probably complement their recording style very nicely. The KSM44A excels when recording vocals but is also very sympathetic to acoustic instruments and with very little obvious colouration of the recorded sound it supports the source material rather than altering it any way. I hoped it would allow the Band to capture the natural acoustic nature of their material…so I boxed it up, sent it off and waited.

Roll forward six months or so and ‘All I Have Is Here’ the second album from Barricades Rise has been released; the KSM44A was used on pretty much every track on the album after Jonathan decided that he couldn’t bring himself to give it up and duly purchased one. The secret to it all he told me was this ‘the right microphone is the difference; once we had that we started getting the results we had been hoping for…end of story!’
