Multi Award Winning Producer Guy Massey’s favourite mic….The Shure KSM353
Guy Massey learnt his trade at none other than Abbey Road studios, having landed a dream ’3 month placement’ following a Sound Engineering Diploma. Five years later, and still at Abbey Road having assisted on many platinum selling records, Guy was permitted to work on a session on his own.
In 2005 Guy went freelance and joined 140dB management. He has since worked with The Manic Street Preachers, Divine Comedy and James Blunt to name just a few. 2011 has already been a great year for Guy, having won a Grammy for his work on remastering The Beatles back catalogue, plus winning two awards at the Music Producers Guild for ‘Best Engineer Of The Year’, and for Best Album (The Coral – Butterfly House, which he mixed and engineered with Leckie).
We are especially proud to learn that Guy is now using the Shure KSM353 Ribbon microphone whenever possible.
He had the following to say:
“The ksm353 has become a favourite vocal mic of late. It doesn’t colour the sound, needs very little in the way of corrective EQ’ing and handles high SPLs very well. The mic imparts great depth tonally. The singer sounds like they are standing in front of you when you listen back. I love it”
